Chess Board, Birch-Walnut & Cedar
This chess board is 17” square. Each square is just over 2” and is made using 8 triangles. Two types of wood are in each square. Three kinds of wood are on the chess board. The dark square has “Cedar” and “Walnut” from Missouri; the light square has “Cedar’ and “Birch” from Missouri. There are 612 pieces in the over lay.
I was playing around when I made this board. I wanted to see what it would look like to have the same kind of wood in the center each square. Yet have a definite dark and light wood next to each other for the squares. It can mix your opponent. It can mix you up.
If for nothing else, this is my version of “modern art”; it makes a nice wall hanging.
This gives a completely different look to a chess board. When not being used as a chess board, it is made to hang on the wall from one corner. They make a very beautiful wall hanging.
