In 1980 I made a Cedar chest for my daughter, for a “hope chest”. She was to use half of her allowance to buy things to fill it for when she got married. I framed it out of Cedar, and then overlaid it using diamonds and triangles cut from Cedar, Walnut and Hedge (Osage Orange or Bois D’Arc). The Hedge was from an old Hedge post I had on the place here. Hedge starts out nice and yellow as you can see on the 1980 picture, but darkens up darker than Walnut as you can see in the later pictures. I made the handles and everything out of wood. (I’m cheep that way) I had to kind of feel my way along as I made it. I used 2 or 3 methods in gluing the pieces on and finally settled on one I've been using ever since. They all seemed to work as no pieces have ever come off. Debbie still has it at the foot of her bed.
